To all the faithful and all men and women of goodwill
Dear beloved people of God, May the peace of God be with you!
1. Our pastoral mission as Bishops of Cameroon has led us in the past to speak to you, People of God, men and women of goodwill, for the welfare of the citizens and the interest of our nation, each time our country found itself at a decisive turning point of its history. • Already in 1995, the Apostolic Vicars sent a letter to the faithful of Christ on the political situation at that moment.
• In 1959, the Bishops wrote to the citizens about the independence of Cameroon.
• In 1988, we wrote a Pastoral Letter on the commitment of the laity in the life of the nation. We reminded you of the fact that a “well-conducted political activity is a concrete and high form of justice and charity (n° 10)”. For this the laity must engage with love for God and love for men in a spirit of service and generosity for the good of all. In fact, “an authentic democracy, which respects pluralism, is one of the principal routes which the Church travels together with the people. The lay Christian, engaged in the democratic struggle according to the Spirit of the Gospel, is the sign of a Church which participates in the promotion of the rule of the law everywhere in Africa”. (Ecclesia in Africa. N° 112).
• In 1990 the Pastoral Letter of the Bishops on the economic crisis plaguing the country urged you to mobilise against the crisis through hard work, solidarity and reconciliation.
• In 2004, the Letter of the Bishops of Cameroon to all the faithful and all the citizens of goodwill on the “Right and Duty to vote” called your attention to the necessity of involving all citizens in elections as it is expected in a democracy.
“To say of what is that it is not, or of what is not that it
is, is false, while to say of what is that it is, and of what is not
that it is not, is true’. Here Aristotle is referring to the underlying
things that make an assertion true. These things often referred to as pragmata mustbe logically
structured incidences or facts. In prehistoric Greek, Truth was oftenlinked to discussions involving geometry, logic,
mathematics and natural
philosophy.
A nicotine-addicted 2-year-old sparks fury. But it
isn't just the parents at fault -- it's Big Tobacco! It's not such a small world after all. One only need check out the
video that surfaced this week of an overweight Indonesian toddler
dragging on a cigarette with all the practiced aplomb of Don Draper --
and the horrified reactions it spawned across the world -- to get a
textbook lesson in cultural divides.
Today, May 31 is observed the world over as "World No Tobacco Day". A day set aside to highlight the health hazards caused by tobacco products. The theme this year is "Tobacco Health Warnings".
The hypocrisy surrounding the addictive habit of smoking is glaring in any part of the world you find yourself.
Three weeks of vacation is only good for physical relaxation, but not enough

status quo can't tame the willing mind to obtain a genuine rest.
'You can move a child out of a
village but you can not move the village out of the child' goes the
popular adage! News of the world's recently discovered un-contacted
indigenous tribe came like a bombshell as anthropologists, sociologists
as well as indigenous rights activists continually ponder on the
possibility of more undiscovered virgin group of people, who may be
seeing us as 'aliens'. Recently, occupants of a
hovering aircraft noticed a group of people in the heartland of the
Amazon dense forest, just around the borders demarcating Brazil from
Peru. Later on, the people ran for their safety while their 'army'
of warriors- fewer in number and made up of hefty looking men emerged,
all painted in red and aiming their traditionally made bows and arrows at the aircraft, ready to defend their homeland. (see photograph ).
This is holy week. A week when Christians commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus-The Christ. The tenets of Christian belief center around the resurrection-the act of rising from the death. Religiosity is a complex phenomenon. This phenomenal aspect of religiosity is not what tilt us to our religious beliefs, but the simple fact that man is prone to be religious. What makes religiosity complex is the fact that it is centered on facts and beliefs. The aspects of religiosity that are not provable(not facts), are considered beliefs, making religion one of the known concepts that ignores the proof paradigm. The logic aspect(logos) may or may not be as important as the non-logical aspect(pure belief borne from faith).
