A revolution is not a football match where we expect the arbiter or referee to be unbiased. The role of a media house in a revolution is to forge unity amongst the revolting people and present their case to the world in such a manner that changes the narrative to suit their goal of liberation. Even the oldest broadcasting outfit- the BBC mostly funded by the British people was used as a uniting force during the Second World War. Up till today, the BBC is not independent as neophytes may be prone to believe! Their editorial policy is trimmed to suit the British people and government policies, promoting unity amongst them and protecting their royal set up.
A revolutionary media apparatus is the propaganda medium of the people and the interest of the revolution is safeguarded if this media outfit is directly funded by the people themselves as has been the case with SCBC this far. Moreover, as of now, the Revolutionary Interim Government has not publicly expressed any difficulty providing funds for the running of SCBC.
What we are noticing is a trend in this revolution that needs to be countered head-on! Ambazonians must rise against a well-established group that is out to derail this revolution. A few months ago, the Ambazonians were surprised by the emergence of a new group from South Africa called SCCOP, which presented itself as willing to work with the Ambazonian people but was out there publicly castigating its leadership. According to its internal rules and regulations, membership of the group is open to anybody- I mean ANYBODY – even those who do not believe in the restoration of the independence of Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) from La Republique du Cameroun! Actually Article 5a of SCCOP By-Laws Internal rules and Regulations reads: “ Any person from La Republique du Cameroun or from any other movement or organization with a goal, vision or mission that is contrary to what SCCOP stands for but who aspires to become a member of SCCOP shall be subject to rigorous vetting by an ad-hoc committee established for that purpose” Section 5 a).
Ambazonians have to guard against this kind of politicking in all shapes and form! Now we have the revolutionary voice of the people of Ambazonia - SCBC getting ready to be sold to the higher bidder!
I have read through an undated politically-charged document signed by the Chairman of the Board of Director SCBC- Ntube Francis Eseme titled “SCBC CHAIRMAN’S PRESENTATION TO THE AMBAZONIAN LEADERSHIP – A business Advocacy Decision on SCBC Strategy Going Forward”. I must say the Chairman’s presentation exposes exactly why we Ambazonians are fighting against. This insolent sentimental official presentation addressed to the leadership of Ambazonia unveils a minuscule of how those who head some organizations in this revolution have become fiddles of groups with disruptive agendas. For him to say that “ …the Cabinet of Ambazonia recently resolved to own the SCBC expansion and professionalization project and to control SCBC 100% on the basis that they cover all expenses” exposes a lack of professionalism that the Ambazonian people will not tolerate especially from those who control vital structures in this revolution!
First, the Ambazonian people have a mandated leadership around the Interim Government headed by the Acting President.
Second, to say the ‘Cabinet of Ambazonia recently resolved to own the SCBC expansion…’ is either a feat of poor comprehension of how government works or a capricious attempt to derail a well-intended proposal by Cabinet vis-à-vis this issue and cognisant of the mandate the people have bestowed on them to guide us in this revolution. A proposal/decision from the cabinet is the Executive stance of Government of Ambazonia. Having a differing view from it does not give you the audacity to cheapen it to a decision by the ‘Cabinet of Ambazonia’ with all the veiled connotation intended to sway public opinion and wrong characterization. Please, let’s at least be honest in our professional duties!
I will appeal to every Ambazonian to be wary with everything happening in this revolution now. Our enemies are everywhere covered in sheep clothing, dining with us, singing our songs, offering help and therefore we have to be alert. We must bear the brunt of this revolution and control its direction, or else business-like models aimed at clamping down structures of our revolution will be presented to us with a hidden intention of few Ambazonians to cash out from these ventures.
A revolutionary voice of the people cannot be ‘independent’ per se during this time of war! BBC was not independent during the Second World War. SCBC should not! It will be infiltrated by La Republique agents if we go down this road. There is no room for the Board Chair’s ‘vision’ at this time of the revolution. Let the Ambazonian people keep their revolutionary voice- the SCBC as wholly as they can until we reach Buea. A Fourth Estate in a revolution is completely different from a Fourth Estate in a free land. Our land is not yet free! We can’t copy and paste models without analyzing the context.
The people of Ambazonia expect the Board of SCBC to review their stance and work again in tandem with the various arms of leadership in this revolution on this issue. Let SCBC be funded by the people directly as has been the case without necessarily exposing its management to external unknown human variables who could be disruptive, divisive and whose conduit to entitlement in decision making concerning our revolution will be “…I own shares in SCBC”! We can do better!
