Poem: Madiba Mandela

To Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela On His 90th Birthday

Constant quest for equality, undeterred
Bastion of courage, revealed
Yearning for freedom, undaunted
Unrelenting stamina, tested;

Unruffled and unquelled vision
Imbued in freedom's mission
Incarcerated in Robben island, void of sympathy
Unable to metamorphose activism to apathy;

Madiba, icon on Africa's liberation identity
Unrivaled quest for people's liberty
Revered apartheid indomitable hunter
Unflinching determination not to surrender;

Madiba, antithesis for failed African rulership
Evident by exemplary leadership
Perpetual hope for the depressed
Unfading searchlight  for the oppressed.
